The 1st European Congress on Rural Tourism (ECRT), that was celebrated from October 3-5, 2003 in Jaen (Andalucia/Spain), provided a unique opportunity to get first-hand information about the great variety of this activity in Europe. Organized by EuroGites - European Federation of Farm and Village Tourism with the strong support of the Regional Ministry of Tourism of Andalusia, it attracted 390 participants, 120 of them from outside Spain representing 34 countries.
Over 2'5 days, the program reflected a complete scope of experiences, from the highly sophisticated professional product and marketing concepts in the European Union, to the small-scale initiatives in East Europe which prove that illusion and the wish to go ahead are a key for success.
Our special thanks goes to the sponsors that made it possible to celebrate this event; to the Centro de Convenciones de Jaén and it's staff that provided the installations; and last but not least, to all our staff that was involved to prepare, organise, and manage this event.
